The People’s Choice: Meeting Truman the Basset Hound
In honor of Presidents Day weekend, I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than by introducing a very special fellow who certainly carries himself with a certain... presidential authority.
Meet Truman.
Truman is a Basset Hound with a zest for life that is only rivaled by his talent for the "Basset Side-Eye." From the moment he arrived for his session, it was clear he was going to be the star of the show.
A Star in the Making
Some dogs take a moment to warm up to the lens, but Truman? He was born for the spotlight. He gave me a literal gallery of expressions—from soulful, floppy-eared wisdom to that mischievous glint in his eye that tells you exactly who runs the household.
As an artist, I live for those moments where a dog’s personality just pours through the camera. Truman didn't just sit for a portrait; he told a story with every tilt of his head.
The "Good" Problem
I always tell my clients that my goal is to make their final selection process as difficult as possible—in the best way! Truman certainly took that to heart.
Because he gave us so many "faces" and so much character, his parents had an absolute workout trying to narrow down their final favorites. When a dog has that much love for their humans (and a bit of a stubborn Basset streak to keep things interesting), every frame feels like a keeper.
Capturing the Legacy
Beyond the adorable ears and the signature poses, what struck me most about Truman was the pure bond he shares with his parents. It’s those connections—the ones that make a dog more than a pet, but a true part of the family story—that I strive to capture in every session.
Truman, you’re a statesman, a comedian, and an absolute star. Thank you for making my job so much fun!
