A Beach Session Honoring Love, Loss, and New Beginnings
Some sessions carry a little more meaning than others.
Last year, this sweet couple won a portrait session during my holiday event. At the time, the plan was simple: to document this chapter of life with the dogs they loved so deeply.
But before they could schedule their session, life changed.
They said goodbye to their beloved Leo.
By the time we met for their early morning beach session, they were still carrying the ache of that loss, the kind every dog lover knows all too well.
But alongside them were Brodie, their loyal companion, and tiny Enzo, the newest addition to their family. A little puppy with bright eyes, endless curiosity, and the kind of joyful energy only a puppy can bring.
This session became more than portraits.
It became a way to honor the dog who came before while celebrating the new chapter unfolding in front of them.
We captured quiet moments between them and Brodie, who has walked beside them through both love and loss. We laughed as Enzo explored the sand for the very first time, darting through the beach with all the excitement only a puppy can have.
What I love most about these images is that they hold both things at once.
The grief of missing someone deeply.
And the gratitude of loving again.
Because welcoming a new dog into your heart never replaces the one you lost.
It simply means their love made your heart bigger.
To this beautiful family, thank you for trusting me to preserve this season for you. Leo’s memory is still part of your story, and the love you shared with him is written into the way you love Brodie and Enzo today.
This is what legacy looks like.
Carrying love forward.
