Behind the Art: The Soul of a Pet Photographer
For me, pet photography is about capturing the quiet echoes of love that exist between a pet and their person. It's a way to transform the moments you have today into a timeless, tangible legacy. As a Tampa pet photographer, this mission is at the very heart of everything I do at HelgaZimages.
I grew up with dogs, and my childhood was spent surrounded by them—from my uncle’s K9 to my grandparents’ training facility. I started having my own dogs in 1998 and even bought a house so my pups could have a yard to play in. My world revolved around my three dogs: my Rottweiler, Cindy, and my two rescues, a German Shepherd mix named Jordy and an Australian Shepherd mix named Harley.
The turning point for me wasn't about facing goodbye, but about a sudden, profound realization of how quickly time passes. When my beloved Cindy became ill, the most important thing to me was to capture her spirit and the bond we shared. Those final, precious images became a powerful reminder that every moment is a gift worth preserving. In that moment, a mission was born: I had to create this same gift for others. I wanted to help fellow pet owners create fine art dog portraits that celebrate the beautiful, joyful life they have with their companions right now.
My personal experience with my own rescue pups made the transition to helping others an easy one. Every animal deserves a loving home, and every dog deserves a legacy. This belief fuels my work with local rescues, helping homeless dogs find their perfect family.
